As Executive Secretary for the Association of Refugee Health Coordinators, Ann envisioned and executed a Centers for Disease Control (CDC) funded project called Enhancing Partnerships in Refugee Health. This included planning a national conference for state Refugee Health Coordinators, plus developing and implementing recommendations regarding refugee health screening, education and surveillance.
Patricia and Ann's work with the Minnesota Immigrant Health Task Force resulted in a website on immigrant and cross-cultural health issues and a report, entitled “Immigrant Health: A Call To Action.” The report was later featured in the Elsevier Press book, Immigrant Medicine.
Garth has led multi-disciplinary international teams in designing and evaluating health care and development projects using state-of-the-art tools, including knowledge practice coverage surveys, health facility assessments, focus group discussions and participatory learning & action methods.
The National Council on Interpreting in Health Care wanted to develop professional ethics and standards for medical interpreters across the United States. Patricia and Tony designed two national surveys, compiled the answers, drafted and re-drafted standards, managed two year’s worth of meetings and helped the Council achieve the results they were after. As Refugee Health Coordinator at the Minnesota Department of Health, Ann facilitated increased collaboration among refugee colleagues through conferences, forums and the development of best practices.
For the past eight years, Tony has coordinated the growth of the Multilingual Health Resource Exchange, a collaborative of over a dozen often-competing health care groups. Through the Exchange, these organizations cut the cost of developing and translating health education materials.
Patricia and Ann played key roles in planning, organizing and developing communication materials for the Consortium on Health and Mobility, which seeks to broaden the definition of global medicine.
Garth recently completed a manual and web-based training course on project design, monitoring and evaluation for use by NGO staff in the US and abroad.
